For thirty years now Philips AVENT has been supporting moms around the world, helping them care for their babies in the best possible way. Synonymous with innovation, the brand has evolved from where it first began to producing a range of products that are designed with the special needs of babies, toddlers and their mothers in mind.
How It All Began
“In 1984 the AVENT brand was born with the introduction of a feeding bottle that would set the standard worldwide. The owner, Edward Atkin, had noticed how the standard baby bottle was simply not up to the task with its hard, long and narrow nipples, and unstable ‘difficult-to-fill’ design. He set about creating a bottle that would suit the needs of babies, and so it was that the act of bottle-feeding infants changed forever,” explains Fountain Medical’s Astrid Anderson.
The Next Best Thing to Breastfeeding
Edward’s new feeding bottle became the best engineered of its kind in the world. His design included a wide base and neck for easier filling and cleaning. Its nipple was the first to be made entirely of odourless, tasteless silicone. Soft and broad in shape, it was as close to nature as he could make it with a unique venting system to help reduce colic in newborns.
Closer to Home
Some 24 years ago, South African moms were introduced to the wonders of Philips AVENT when the brand first entered the country. “Since then, mothers and their babies have enjoyed the benefits of superior quality products that keep their special needs in mind. Philips AVENT supports the choices our mothers make, whether breastfeeding, bottle-feeding or combining the two.
As baby grows, Philips AVENT is right there with its unique products and innovative toddler feeding range,” adds Anderson.
Inspired by Nature
Feeding bottles are not the only products to have undergone an evolution. Philips AVENT’s range of manual and electronic breast pumps has changed expressing from a rather awkward and time-consuming process, to an easy and comfortable system that allows moms to breastfeed for as long as they like.
The Philips AVENT Natural Manual Breast Pump, by way of example, has been developed to offer a more comfortable expressing position for easier milk flow, with no need to lean forward. The pumps allow mothers to express in a comfortable, reclined position, reducing the risk of back pain.
It also has an innovative massage cushion that combines peristaltic and vacuum actions for greater efficacy of milk expression. Soft silicone petals gently massage the breast to stimulate the let-down reflex and encourage increased milk flow and supply.
30 Years On
For 30 years AVENT has been designing and manufacturing products that are inspired by nature and have been developed through extensive research and clinical trials. Going forward, Philips AVENT will continue to produce innovative solutions that make feeding and caring for your baby easier. With this in mind, it’s no surprise that more mothers choose Philips AVENT.
