Takalani Sesame, the much loved South African educational children’s programme, was recently honoured with a certification for recognition as Quality Programming for Children by the Prix Jeunesse Foundation.
Promoting television for young people that is of the highest standard and enables them to see, hear and express themselves and their cultures is top priority for the Prix Jeunesse Foundation. As the leading authority in this regard, its acknowledgement of Takalani Sesame is a first for this landmark children’s series.
In addition to the certification for recognition, Takalani Sesame will be featured in the catalogue and screened in the media bar at the Prix Jeunesse Festival, being staged from May 30th to June 4th 2014 in Munich.
“We are thrilled to continue to share Takalani Sesame’s valuable lessons surrounding literacy and languages, mathematics, and life-skills—especially at the Prix Jeunesse Festival,” says Yasmeen Engelbrecht, Project Director for Takalani Sesame. “It’s truly an honour to be given the opportunity to represent the Department of Basic Education, Kwasukasukela, the SABC, Sanlam and Sesame Workshop in this way.”
Approximately 91 percent of households report awareness of Takalani Sesame and this has led to the children’s educational programme achieving the highest household awareness of all key competitive shows. This recent accolade from the Prix Jeunesse Foundation is the latest to affirm that Takalani Sesame content enriches and empowers the minds of South Africa’s bright young people, and it is a privilege to be considered amongst the world’s best television programmes for children.
