Welcome to Simply Wellness with Carla! I am Carla, a wellness and fitness expert and mommy to the most adorable and busy 1 year old little boy ever, Caleb. Once a month, I will be sharing fitness tips, mommy wellness and pregnancy tips, as well as healthy recipes and exercises for moms. To start us off, I made these gorgeous HEALTHY power protein pancakes, something special to make on Valentine’s Day!
Why power protein pancakes you ask? Well, protein is vitally important to build lean muscle mass which increases our metabolism. The more muscle, the less body fat. Protein is also a vital building block for bone, muscle, blood, tissue repair and hair, skin and nails. It assists with the production of core enzymes, hormone production and body chemicals. And best of all for moms and dads… Protein increases energy levels.
These pancakes are so easy to make, so gorgeous to look at and even tastier than they look!
What you will need
2 ½ cups of low fat or fat free milk
2 cups of gluten free flour
2 tsp of baking powder
1 pinch salt
1 Tbsp. canola oil
1 Tbsp of red food colouring
2 scoops of Protein powder (optional)
½ cup chopped dark chocolate (optional)
What you will need to do
Step 1: Beat the eggs and add in the dry mix, mix again with an electric beater until you have a thick and smooth batter.
Step 2: Use one large round pan on medium heat. Add a small amount of oil and pour in the mixture.
Step 3: Wait until the surface cooks and starts to bubble then flip over with a spatula.
Cut out heart shapes with a cookie cutter, drizzle with honey (you can even add a tiny amount of red food colouring to your honey), add chocolate shavings and ENJOY!
