A great deal of new moms experience what is known as the baby blues. After having your baby, you expect to be on cloud number nine, but instead you feel as though you are constantly on the verge of tears. You feel exhausted and on-edge, the signs you were unprepared for. Symptoms of sleeplessness, irritability and loss of concentration, usually appear in the first few days.
The baby blues are completely normal as you have recently undergone a massive change in hormones.
While the baby blues is natural and nothing to be too concerned about, postpartum depression is more severe. It is often very difficult to differentiate between the two as they show many similar symptoms. However, with postpartum depression, the symptoms are a lot more severe and last a lot longer.
Postpartum depression usually begins shortly after childbirth and begins to gradually develop over a period of time. On the other hand, it can also affect some women very suddenly and without warning.
Postpartum depression can also affect your baby as moms who suffer from postpartum are often less inclined to interact with their new baby.
If you discover that you may be suffering from postpartum depression, you need ti begin taking care of yourself. Simple lifestyle changes can make a big difference.
