Golden Milk: Benefits & Recipe

Golden milk, also know as tumeric milk, is nourishing and smooth. This warm beverage is
easy to prepare.

Golden milk is a traditional Ayurvedic drink. Ayurveda is one of the world’s oldest holistic medical systems. This ancient system was developed more than 3,000 years ago in India. Ayurveda is still widely used in many parts of the world.

Golden milk is traditionally made by warming up milk with turmeric, cinnamon and ginger. Curcumin, turmeric’s most significant compound, has medicinal properties. For instance reduced joint pain, arthritis and inflammation. Additionally it is often used to boost immunity.

There are claims that golden milk can be used to treat a variety of conditions.  For example depression, blood sugar levels, heart function, blood pressure, and digestion. However, there isn’t enough research to confirm these claims. No information in this article should be used in place of medical advice.

Loaded With Antioxidants

Golden milk is rich in antioxidants. Curcumin has strong antioxidant properties. Our recipe also includes cinnamon and ginger. They similarly have impressive antioxidant properties. Antioxidants help to protect cells from damage. They also fight off disease and infections. Antioxidants contribute to your overall health.

Inflammation and Joint Pain

The main ingredients have strong anti-inflammatory properties that may reduce inflammation and joint pain. Tumeric, cinnamon and ginger all have anti-inflammatory properties.

Antibacterial, Antiviral and Antifungal Properties

Golden milk is often used as a home remedy against colds. The ingredients have antibacterial and antiviral properties which may protect your body from infections. Their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties may strengthen your immune system as well.

Golden Milk Recipe

Single serving

golden milk

1/2 cup (120ml) of an unsweetened milk of your choice
1 tsp of turmeric
1 small piece of grated fresh ginger or 1/2 tsp of ginger powder
1/2 tsp of cinnamon powder
1 pinch of ground black pepper
1 tsp of honey (optional)

To make the golden milk, simply mix all ingredients in a small saucepan. Then bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for about 10 minutes. It is ready when it is fragrant and flavorful. Strain the drink through a fine strainer into mugs. Top with a pinch of cinnamon.

You can make golden milk in advance. You can be store it in the fridge for up to five days. Simply reheat it before drinking.

In conclusion use a milk with both calcium and vitamin D. Also limit the amount of honey that you add to your drink. This way you can reap the most health benefits.
