A good cup of coffee is just the right start to any mom’s day, right? Some days, it feels like it is the ONLY way to start my day… but not quite the way you’re thinking. Welcome back to Mom Moments with Megan Kelly!
While I may enjoy a good cuppa every morning, studies show that you should add coffee to your beauty routine! It offers several skin benefits that will have you adding an extra scoop to kick start your day!
Using old coffee grinds as an exfoliator helps to remove dead skin cells. This makes way for cell regeneration and leaves skin looking and feeling smoother than before. However, you should always grind the granules, making them smaller, before adding them to a natural base-oil like coconut, almond or olive oil. The oil helps coat the tiny granules, making them less harsh on your skin. It also restores moisture, so that your skin is hydrated and nourished.
Exfoliating is an important part of any skin routine. It should be done at least 1 to 2 times a week. You should take special care not to damage the skin by over exfoliating or using a scrub that is too rough. Also, if you’re planning on using a self-tanner, be sure to exfoliate first for a more even and long lasting tan.
Coffee has even been said to help improve cellulite by stimulating blood-flow in the area, which helps improve the elasticity, texture and appearance of cellulite and stretch marks. Another reason why more and more people are choosing to opt for a caffeine induced skin routine, is because it helps improve circulation, preventing and treating varicose veins and rosacea.
While your cappuccino gives you a temporary boost of energy, eye creams that include caffeine are proven to be much more effective at treating puffy eyes and dark circles. Dermatologists are urging us to look for topical creams that have caffeine as its main ingredient, as it works faster than reaching for another cup of coffee. I say, why not do both?
More surprisingly, it is also known to help stimulate hair growth, enhance the colour of your hair and make it more manageable. Caffeine stimulates the hair follicles, ensuring stronger hair that is bound to grow faster too.
If you’re not too keen on parting with your own coffee just yet, then why not support local stores that love coffee just as much as you and I both, and are already including it as part of their skincare range offerings.
