In honour of Madiba, Forest Hill City will be hosting a family “Mandela” weekend for the children of the community on 18, 19 and 20 July 2014.
Mandela was known as “Madiba” or father to the South African nation and his love of children was renowned. To celebrate this love, Forest Hill City will host a fantastic weekend (19 & 20 July) of activities for the whole family and fundraising initiatives for children including Nappy RunTM during which nappies for underprivileged children with disabilities will be collected along with a whole host of kiddie activations – face painting, buskers and lots more – happening around the Centre. A pledge wall will be dedicated to Mandela that will be made available to the children and adults to write and draw on. Of course a celebration must have dancing and Hip Hop dancers will show shoppers how to break it down while the MC entertains the crowd. Prizes, specials and other fun activities will be on offer for the duration of the weekend and don’t forget to check out the go kart racing!
Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, politician and philanthropist, served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999 but was better known as “Madiba”. He was born on 18 July 1918.
