Takalani Sesame, one of South Africa’s most popular children’s programmes broadcast on SABC channels, will celebrate this year’s World Health Day with a week-long call-to-action digital campaign aimed at encouraging our audiences and their older siblings, carers, parents, and teachers to lead healthier lifestyles. The campaign runs from 31 March 2014 up to World Health Day on 7 April 2014.
“Takalani Sesame already has health as an important pillar of its messaging to children aged three to seven years old. The one week long call-to-action campaign on health and wellness is aimed at informing, educating and raising awareness on healthy lifestyles,” says Yasmeen Engelbrecht, Local Project Director for Takalani Sesame, Sesame Workshop.
“Through the use of a daily content theme strategy over the seven days of the campaign, a number of health and wellness issues will be explored including: emotional wellness, safety, nutrition, hygiene, exercise and sports, play and games and making healthier lifestyle choices at a young age in order to grow up with good values and great foundation principles.”
Audiences are also encouraged to share their exciting and healthy traditional recipes and their stories on the various cultural activities that they engage in to stay healthy.
The campaign will be take shape on Takalani Sesame’s Facebook page with other online digital platforms driving it including Twitter and the Takalani Sesame website. SABC Education will support the project with an on-air promotion campaign as well as cross promotion links on their website. Takalani Sesame partners, Sanlam and the Department of Basic Education, will also link through to the campaign on their digital platforms.
