Yellow Lab Photography Review

Can we all just agree that our babies are cuter in someone else’s arms? I love holding my baby, staring into her gorgeous blue eyes and telling her how beautiful she is. But there is something special about taking a step back, seeing her “objectively” (is there such a thing with our beloved munchkins?) from a few steps away. This photoshoot with Yellow Lab Photography took that to a whole new level.

I was skeptical about baby photoshoots. They all look the same, right? I mean, most babies sort of look alike, and the poses are pretty much the same, so what’s the point? Well, if my words were edible I’d have to eat them, because this photoshoot completely changed every idea I ever had about this stuff. Salomé from Yellow Lab Photography made the whole experience so very special, and produced the most incredible images that I can treasure forever.

Salomé herself is so warm and welcoming, immediately making me and Harley totally comfy. She is clearly experienced with less than accommodating models, never rushing me when I needed to change her nappy, feed her, or just generally take a break to work around her typical baby moods. We had a few ideas for various outfits to wear and backdrops to use, but I never felt overly posed or uncomfortable. It was casual and fun – nothing like the chore some photoshoots can be.

With two kids of her own, as well as a couple gorgeous dogs, Salomé builds her work around capturing our families the way they are. She knows it’s not always easy to get a baby to smile, or dogs to cooperate, but whether your baby is covered in fur or not, she has the unique ability to set everyone at ease and capture their best side.

In the two hours I spent at the beautiful Yellow Lab Photography studio, I never once felt awkward or worried – usually I’m constantly apologising for my baby being, well, a baby and needing to feed or cuddle or whatever else. Salomé was relaxed and fun, encouraging my ideas for the photos and patient enough to try whatever it took to get Harley to smile for the camera.

Too often after a photoshoot, you have nothing to show for it. You take all kinds of pictures, but can’t show anything off to your friends or family. Not with Yellow Lab Photography! Salomé took a couple of snaps on my phone as well as a Polaroid, so that I could immediately have something to put on the fridge when I got home. Then I got a few preview pictures, and they blew me away – the little Yoda hat I brought for Harley was a definite winner, but the way she captured my princess is just too cute!

I’ve now received the full selection of images and they are perfect. I love seeing the range of expressions and outfits – it’s such a gift to always be able to look back on these pictures and remember what my little one was like at this age. I definitely want to do a photoshoot like this at least every year so that I can continue to chronicle our life as she gets older; these images are a million times better than anything I can capture on my own.

Now I have the difficult task. The photoshoot comes with a mug and five prints, although I might add some more because it’s just too hard to choose. What could be better as a gift for someone you love? My husband will definitely be getting the mug for Father’s Day, but he might need to fight my mom for it. I might just request a set of mugs and give them to all our friends and family… perhaps that’s a good idea for Christmas presents.

You can enter to win this incredible photoshoot opportunity below, but even if you don’t win, I can’t recommend Salomé enough. She is a lovely human being with an excellent eye and the patience of a saint to get such beautiful pics of a baby who doesn’t just sit nicely and pose for the camera. Whether you just want to capture this special time in your life, or give a unique present to someone in your life, these images are sure to make you happy.
